Progress Report Week 9

All my main deliverables have been completed, now just time for reviews. I also got more hours where I work, so I appreciated having the heavier school projects out of the way, as I have been coming home from my job exhausted. But it will be worth it when I have enough money saved up to take my CISSP, which I hope to have before the end of next year. Note that I am writing these last 3 reports after the fact. I got a bit confused in the end, losing track of which of the three blogs I had completed. I could have done better at keeping tabs on them and I suppose I should not that as the primary challenge in this report.

Progress Report Week 8

This was the week of my presentation. I had the outline done and I had to select images to use for this and my paper. That was pretty easy, as I pulled most of them from my survey.  The only other images I used were found with a google image search and a filter on the results that made it only return pictures that were free to use. I also finished up my paper at this time, placing the images where appropriate. I even had to format some of the information into columns so the images would fit better. This resulted in me also having to slim down some of my content on those pages in order to line everything up right.
My presentation went well. I had a rough day which made me late, but I was still ready when I got up there to deliver it.
I created my publication, using elements from my created paper. I had to cut a lot of info out of this, which was a big challenge. I focused more of my definition of malware and prevention tips than on my survey. The only point in referencing my survey for my publication was to provoke interest in malware prevention. I also cut out a lot of the types of malware I described, limiting to a few of the more commonly destructive varieties. I also had to elaborate less on my prevention tips, hoping that I could make the message clear with one sentence each.

Progress Report Week 7

By this week I had the primary rough draft of my paper completed. This version had all the text but none of the images or charts. It was based on my original outline, but with changes in how I approached topics covered in my survey.
When I was writing it, the flow of my paper in the center did not feel right. I originally had my outline start that section with how secure people felt about malware, then what they did about it. But my rough draft switched those two topics around.
Once that draft was completed, I began working on my presentation. This started with creating a flow based on my paper. A challenge with this was selecting what information to keep and what to drop. I thought had to do this, because if I covered every detail of content, I would run over 20 minutes. However, in the end I kept more info than I thought I did, though this issue would arise again with my publication.
