Lab Activity, Week Two

            This activity has been interesting, because it allowed me to further reflect on my meeting with my instructor and get ideas on how to do my research. I am really interested in information security and I wanted to do my assignment on preventing attacks. To help narrow it down, my focused on the prevention and detection of malicious software such as root kits, Trojans, worms, and viruses.  My topic focuses on what malware preventions are available and what people do to protect themselves from it.

            One of the things that was suggested by my instructor was to conduct a survey and I thought it was a great idea. It would help me put the skills I gained from last quarters Business Statistics class to a practical use. Initially, I wanted to pass my survey out to the class and some of the students in the other labs. But that would severely limit my sample size and I want to have a more general audience. When discussing this with another student, he suggested that I conduct my survey using an online service, such as Survey Monkey or Google Forms. Taking this idea to heart, I am looking into these services and I hope to choose the one that will provide me with the best turnout.

            My research paper will probably consist of information regarding malware prevention and detection as well as a report on my study. I hope to understand how concerned people are with their security and create an informative document that increases awareness.
