I have made progress in narrowing down a
question to base my report on. What are people doing to protect their computers?
To be more specific, I will be conducting a survey to find out what kind of malware
detection and/or prevention software they use. Alongside finding the results, I
will also research the different options we have available, such as the ways
anti-virus detects malware (signature base, heuristics, ect.).
So far, the only roadblock has been
coming up with a research topic that I can be satisfied with. Fortunately, my instructor
helped me flesh it out with the suggestion of the survey. The next challenge
will be creating a survey that will give me enough useful data to work with and
encouraging people to take it. I plan on having the class and other tech
students take it, since they all are virtual guaranteed to have a computer. My
next week will be spent on the creation of my survey as well as coming up with
a method of deployment and collection. I hope to have at least 30 participants
and I need to find an incentive to get them to take it.
